Banana Ice Cream

23 Aug

Remember the days when the average Australian could afford to walk into their local supermarket and pick up a bunch of bananas without having to take out a mortgage?

Well, back in “those days” I bought too many bananas but somehow had the foresight to freeze some so they wouldn’t go to waste.

These frozen bananas came in very handy the other day for a quick and healthy snack (dairy-free too!)

(Is it just me, or do you find that when a simple thing like a banana is out of your financial reach you crave it more than you normally would?)

All you need to do is let them stand for about 10 minutes and then just peel the frozen bananas, slice them and then using a hand-held blender, start blending…before you know it you have a creamy, delicious yet healthy treat.  It’s quite amazing, but it does actually look like ice cream.

Seriously, that’s it!

Frozen bananas blended.

I sprinkled this with a little “chai spice” mix. That is equal quantities of ground cinnamon, ginger, cloves, nutmeg and cardamom.

I always keep some of this mix in an airtight container. It is great for this sort of thing, or I just sprinkle some into tea for when I feel like a chai tea but am too lazy to make a “real” one.

Of course, topping with chocolate sauce is also perfectly acceptable.

By the way, this smiley face was found on the frozen banana skin.  Cute huh?
